Project 1.1 Columns: "Quattrozentric Structures", by Jane Chongsuwat

From the inceptive idea of designing a column that can serve a function beyond just a structural support, and my personal fascination for staircases, I decided to design a column employing a quattrozentric (4-run) spiral staircase.

The intersection points between the staircases serve as the connection for the diagonal continuation, which works as a bracing between themselves (like a truss). The intersections can also serve as a common space, in the case that each single habitat has a circulation of its own.

The distribution of the mass of each stairs (width of the steps) are distributed towards the centre of the 4 stairs, in order for them to lean on each other. Together, the 4 set of staircases work together as one column unit.
