Project 1.1 : Columns : "A Continous Flow" by Praise

Column : A Continuous Flow

In definition, a column is the structural component of a building that is responsible for "resisting compression." Columns are usually represented as vertical profile holding up the floors of a building. It does not, however, always have to be that way. Columns can be defined in so many different variations, giving it endless possibilities. In this project, I focused on the main idea : "Architecture is Ambiguous" meaning, a column is not restricted to a vertical component nor it is always needed to be distinguished or isolated from other parts of the building. A floor for instance can transform into column.

This model demonstrates how a floor plate is continuously transformed in to a column
The lower layers hold more weight, therefore is thicker than the top layers.
